Tour Directors Matter

We recently returned from our second Go Ahead Tour, a new offering that included London, Normandy, and Paris. First the hotels; in London we were located less than two blocks from the emergency entrance of a large hospital so we listened to sirens all night. The hotel was nice, just a very bad location. Then we took the Eurostar train to a hotel in Calais, France. Again, a nice hotel but located in the middle of nowhere. Traveling to Normandy took forever, only to backtrack to the hotel. Normandy was amazing but our time there was limited due to the long bus ride. Then, after two nights, we double-backed on the same roads to the Brittany Coast – does anyone look at maps at Go Ahead? Now some comments about our Tour Guide Mario; he was a disappointment. He struggled to relate to our group, a small group of twelve. He was rarely available, relying more on the memo boards posted at the hotels. We never saw him on our free days. And on more than one occasion; he embarrassed group members by scolding them for various things like standing up to fetch a jacket before the bus came to a complete stop. While our group meshed beautifully, Mario never learned any of our names. LNP is a great itinerary, just check the location of your hotels and try to avoid Mario.

Dear Robert, We regret that there were some aspects of this tour that did not meet your expectations. We are glad a member of our Quality Control team was able to speak with your wife to learn more about these areas. Regarding the hotel locations, we will be sure to communicate your feedback to our Operations team. This tour covers a considerable amount of coastline, which is the focal point of a good portion of the itinerary. Therefore, some of your hotels may have felt more secluded because the focus is on the natural beauty of the landscape. That said, we appreciate your feedback that they felt perhaps too secluded. Regarding tour logistics and routing, we regret that you felt it was inefficient. The bus companies we work with are always local, and for this reason, they have a very rich knowledge of best routing options, which occasionally do require some backtracking. We appreciate you letting us know that you felt it could have been better, and we will be sure to let your bus driver know. Regarding your Tour Director, we are surprised to learn that he did not meet your expectations, as he generally receives very positive ratings from our travelers. We will be sure to bring your concerns to his attention, as well as to the attention of his supervisor. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, and if you have any other questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 1-800-597-0350.

Perfectly Paced Tour

This was my second tour with Go Ahead, and, once again, Go Ahead exceeded my expectations. This tour was perfectly paced. It allows for a few days ahead of time in London (we arrived four days before our tour began), provides a perfect pace while in London and along the Normandy and Brittany coasts and ends in Paris, where, once again, you can stay a few extra days (we stayed another week). The London part of the tour was well designed. Our accommodations in the Kensington area were very nice. As part of our panoramic tour, we were fortunate enough to be able to see the Trooping of the Colours rehearsal which was really special. The excursion to Stonehenge and Oxford was well worth the cost. After London we took the Eurostar to the Normandy coast. Our first stop was Honfleur, a perfectly timed stop for a tasty crepe and a beautiful port city. We were also introduced to the local Calvados, which was fun. Being in Normandy just made me proud to be an American! Our Tour Director made it all special with his expertise and flexibility to find us all special things to do --- everyone on this trip was treated as if we all mattered. All of our hotels were very, very nice in this area, too. It was particularly special for the tour group that our tour director found a restaurant where D-Day was celebrated (on the evening of D-Day) and veterans of D-Day were being honored. My 22 year old son was able to shake the hand of veterans of D-Day and thank them for their service. He will never forget the conversations that he had with those men. The next day, we got to see the awesome Bayeaux Tapestry and spent a very full day touring the Normandy military sites and memorials was which was really special and gave you a sense of awe as to what the Allies were able to achieve. This day followed with two days where we were introduced to the beauty of Mont St. Michel and St. Malo. Once again, our tour director, Derek K. knew the area so well that he was able to allow us a special trip to Cancale so we could try the local specialty, oysters. AMAZING. In every city we visited each of our local guides, and especially Coco in St. Malo, made sure that we were properly introduced to each town. While in Paris, our tour director organized a special visit to the Cabaret that was really fun. The thing I love about Go Ahead Tours is that the number of the members of the group is always kept small and the tour directors are just excellent. This tour was no exception. It was the perfectly paced tour with an amazing tour director, and my son and I made a memory for life. I have given five stars, but if I could give ten start, I would. It was a perfect tour.

Hi Allison! We’re so thrilled your 2nd Go Ahead tour exceeded your expectations. We appreciate your feedback on the itinerary and pacing. We’re glad you were able to catch the Trooping the Colours rehearsal. That must have been an interesting experience! It’s wonderful to know that your son was able to meet veterans in Normandy, which must have been very educational and moving for him. We’re also pleased that your Tour Director was able to arrange special activities for you and that your local guides shared their passion and knowledge for each region. It’s great to hear that you feel your group size was just right and that it was a perfect tour overall. We truly appreciate your feedback, and we hope to welcome you on tour again!

Terrific Itinerary

Starting in London and ending in Paris with stops in Normandy in between is a brilliant itinerary. So much to see in Normandy, especially the D-Day beaches. Carole Hussell was a great guide - very approachable and always went out of her way to be helpful. This is a new tour and I highly recommend it.

Hi Lou! We’re so glad you enjoyed your tour, and we’re thrilled that you would recommend it to others. Thank you for your review, and we look forward to welcoming you on tour again!
